Meet Google's new AI mode

Google has announced the expansion of its experimental AI Mode feature within Google Search, integrating multimodal search capabilities that allow users to ask complex, multi-part questions and delve deeper into topics through interactive follow-ups. Those with access to AI Mode can now use the tool to ask things about images either uploaded from their device or captured directly from camera. It's powered by Google Lens’s multimodal technology, and it has the ability to interpret not just individual elements within a photograph but also the broader context, relationships between objects, and finer details such as materials, colours, shapes, and spatial arrangements.

Using a method termed "query fan-out", it dynamically generates multiple questions related to both the image as a whole and its constituent parts, giving you more comprehensive information than traditional search.
This is still early in production Google says, and they're going to continue to refine the user experience and expand it's functionality.

Google One AI Premium subscribers can use AI Mode by opting into Search Labs or by visiting google.com/aimode directly. On mobile you can open the Google app and tap the 'AI Mode' icon on the home screen.
